Use the 55-Gallon 2nd Life Recycled Plastic The Rain Well Rain Barrel to collect and store rainwater, gray water, and recovered household water. This FDA food-grade product has enjoyed a previous life as food and liquid containers, and is ready to begin its second life.
This rain barrel has a drain valve at the bottom with garden hose threads, a removable screen lid, and a 1.5-inch internal overflow. The screened lid keeps out mosquitoes, organic debris, small animals, rodents, birds, and large particles.
The lid is flat and firmly attached to the rain barrel with a lever-lock ring, which makes the rain barrel child- and animal-resistant. The openings in the lid are covered with a mosquito prevention screen and allow for more than enough rainwater to flow through the opening from downspouts. The screen is reinforced with metal wire mesh for extra support and can be removed for easy cleaning.
The Rain Well Rain Barrel is available in blue, which provides the means to curb algae growth. An elevated spigot (not included) can be added to fill up your watering pail to water indoor plants. This rain barrel is also designed to accept fittings (not included) to connect several of these barrels together to increase storage capacity.
This 55-gallon rain barrel is ideal for use for most of the year, but should be drained to prevent potential cracking once temperatures dip to freezing levels. This rain barrel is made with food-grade plastic resin, but rainwater straight from the bin needs to be filtered before drinking. Food-grade plastic resin is recommended for rain barrels, even if water is intended for irrigation purposes, because it reduces the amount of chemicals absorbed into the rainwater.
